Class Overview

Introduction:

In third grade there is a transition from learning to read, to reading to learn. We will be learning about all kinds of fun things this year like our solar system, Westward Expansion, multiplication and division facts. We will participate in literature circles and Skype with other classes reading the same novels. We will go on field trips that enhance what we are studying in class. I can't wait!

Expectations:

Parents
In order for all students to reach their fullest potential, it is important that students come to school ready to learn. Please make sure your child is on time every day to ensure a smooth start.  Also, remember that eating balanced meals, getting enough exercise and a good night's rest are helpful study tools.

Students
Be respectful.

Teacher
I will strive to provide students with a high quality, engaging and organized learning environment. I will always be available before and after school to help students with any questions they may have and will return graded work on a weekly basis.  Feel free to contact me with any comments or concerns you may have about your child.

Classroom Organization:

Grading
The Oakland Diocesan grading scale will be used. Report cards are issued three times per year, but feel free to contact me before then if you are concerned with your child's academics.  In class work and homework will be graded using a Check +, Check, or Check- system.   All projects, quizzes and tests will be point based. Late work will be accepted for one day past its date only.  Extra credit or do-overs are not available to change grades.  This is why it's so important to pay attention in class, participate and do your best work always!

Behavior Management
Students will earn punches on a punch card for every day they are above a green level on our clip chart.  Once a punch card is full it may be redeemed for prize coupons.  Group rewards will be given to those teams that compile the most points associated with the clip chart levels at the end of each week.  Always do your best and be a good team member!
